Homebrew Expo 2019 - Announcement

Manchester’s Homebrew Expo is back for its FOURTH year! But due to things outside our control this year’s Homebrew Expo will be later than usual, on Sunday 4th August at Beer Nouveau Brewery Tap (75 North Western Street) from 12 noon until 6pm. This event is a showcase of the best beers brewed by amateur brewers from across Manchester and the North. A chance to dispel the myth that home-brewed beer is cheap, nasty, boring, brown, warm, flat and a waste of your time, by serving a full range of styles on bottle, cask and keg. Each year...

Will it Brew?

At the Easter social meeting we discussed an idea for a club brewing challenge based on an idea from American homebrew clubs. The basic concept is an unusual ingredient challenge and this is how it will probably work. Everyone who wants to be involved in the challenge buys an unusual ingredient to the 18th June meeting. These ingredients can be anything but need to be a) not a normal brewing ingredient, b) food safe, c) reasonable to brew with (ie. nothing that will kill yeast). The ingredients are allocated to brewers randomly and everyone brews a beer using the ingredient...

Manchester BJCP Exam

I am organising a BJCP beer tasting exam in Manchester in April 2018 and am looking for people interested in becoming beer judges who want to take the exam. The aim is try and increase the number of qualified BJCP beer judges in the north of England and to allow us to run our own competitions. This exam is the second part of the process of becoming a qualified judge. The first is an online, multiple choice test about beer styles and the judging process. Neither of these exams are extremely hard but do involve getting a good understanding of...
